Leek under 15 Vikings finished the regular season in style, coming from behind to beat Crewe at Altrad Park.
In the keenly contested opening minutes, centre Louis scored the first try, jinking his way out of tackles. Crewe hit back to score the first of a number of long range tries.
Leek powered their way back into Crewes 22, where front rower Bob crashed over for a try in typical fashion. The visitors then had their best spell with the ball in hand, three long range tries from their skipper in quick succession rattling Leek.
The first of two 50/22 kicks from the majestic boot of Louis put Leek 15 metres out from Crewe's try line. A catch and drive maul collapsed, but in the chaos that followed scrum half Jay, backs player of the match, jinked and weaved his way around would be defenders to score a fine try, making the half time score Leek 17 Crewe 26.
The second half was all Leek. Moving the ball through the hands quickly, they found soft shoulders and space to exploit.
Centre Neison scored a brilliant first phase try, a lineout on Crewe's 22, the ball passed off the top, through the hands of Jay, centre Louis, to fly half Fred, putting Neison into space, who smashed his way through a number tackles to score.
Forward of the match Iceland paved the way for the team, relentless work rate in attack with thunderous runs causing Crewe massive problems. Credit must go to Crewe, who worked tirelessly, and managed to hold up three try scoring opportunities.
Skipper Harry then scored a try which Louis converted to give the hosts some breathing space. Then a high chip to the corner from Louis allowed the ever improving Stan to chase hard after the ball, which bounced in his favour allowing him to catch and score.
Skipper Harry went on to score another try before, in the final minute, Crewe won a penalty, and ran in a converted try to make it 41-33 at the final whistle.
This was a brilliant squad performance, with everyone playing their part in a hard fought victory, and it sets the lads up well for their tour to play Kirby Lonsdale and Orrell. Have fun lads!
