New balcony to provide bigger clubhouse

Clubhouse kitchen to be fully refurbished

Leek rugby club have unveiled plans to dramatically increase the clubhouse capacity by building a new balcony overlooking the Altrad Park pitch.

The club will shortly be seeking planning permission to build the new steel structure after professional advice has been finalised, which will increase the clubhouse floor area by more than 60 per cent.

The aim is also to have a retractable roof and sides, allowing the balcony to be enjoyed in all weathers. The club hopes the work can begin in early summer, after the 24/25 season concludes.

Underneath the balcony will be a new patio area with covered seating and an outdoor bar/hot drinks area, subject to licencing approval. The pictures above show an impression of how the extension might look.

Meanwhile, work is also being carried out to fully refurbish the clubhouse kitchen, with new ventilation, cooking equipment, food preparation and storage equipment and new flooring. This will ensure the kitchen can continue to provide for members and guests for many years to come.

The work will also provide additional secure storage to the rear of the clubhouse.

As a result, the kitchen will be out of use from 2pm on Sunday, 26 January to 10 February 2025, while the work is completed. During this time the club will offer a basic hot drinks service to fans and visitors and food for players only.

However, the good news is that the bar will be open as usual while the work is carried out!

All these improvements will be met from existing club funds, thanks to the successful fundraising activities across the club and support from sponsors over the past few years.

A big thank you to our many club volunteers who continue to work so hard to make these ideas happen.
