LEEK RUFC APPOINTS STRONG LEADERSHIP TEAM FOR NEW SEASON

LEEK RUFC is preparing for a confident return to rugby with the appointment of a new
Director of Rugby and a strong leadership team throughout its playing ranks.

New Director of Rugby, Joel Booth was voted into the post at the club’s Annual General
Meeting at Esterchem Park on September 3 rd ; a long-standing Leek player he brings a

wealth of experience and knowledge to the table.
Other key appointments announced at the AGM included:
• 1st XV captain Eddie Cheadle who has agreed to continue at the helm for a
second season after last year’s successes. His leadership qualities contributed to
the team finishing fourth in the league and reaching the Staffordshire Cup Final,
which unfortunately was not played owing to Covid-19 cutting the season short
along and Midlands cup Semi Finalists .
• 1st XV vice-captains Ollie Drew and Jack Newton-Taylor who are both highly
regarded Leek First team players.

• The Colts welcome a new captain in Matt Beardmore and vice-captain Jack Fryer,
who are hoping to build on the success of last year’s team in winning the League
and getting to the Staffordshire Cup Final – which again could not be played.
• 2nd XV captain Joe Cooper has agreed to remain in post for another season and
will be supported by vice-captains Will Hill and DaAPPOINTSvid Allen (DJ).
• 3rd XV captain Liam Hill has also agreed to remain at the helm for a second
season, supported by vice-captain Tom Grindey.
In addition, Leek’s highly experienced coaching team remains unchanged as the club
aims to build on an excellent 2019-20 season. The 1st XV coaches are Lee Pickles, Chris

Mudd and Gary McDermott, while the Colts retain coach Jack Jones.
Chairman of Senior Rugby, Tony Hine, said: “While the 2019-20 season was certainly
unprecedented with the impact of Covid-19, the club has worked hard to ensure we are
in a strong position to resume play when the RFU gives us the green light.
“We have an excellent and highly experienced leadership team who I know are all
committed to seeing the club achieve the very best results on the field.”
Both the mini and junior sections have commenced fitness training on Sunday morning
with Seniors on Tues and Thurs evening from 7pm at Esterchem park , all In
accordance with RFU and Government guidelines .
