Leek legends return for girls' training

Leek legends return for girls' training

Graham Leftwich31 Mar - 10:53

Morgan Richardson and Molly Mealey have gone on to play at top level

Two former Leek girls stars who have gone on to play in top level teams returned to Altrad Park last week to lead a training session for the girls of the Leek/Longton teams.

Morgan Richardson, who plays for Premiership team Leicester Tigers, and Molly Mealey, who plays for Championship North 1 team Lichfield Ladies, offered tips and advice to the girls in each section as they trained.

Around 40 girls from all age groups across the clubs attended, stretching from the minis all the way up to under 18s. After the session Molly and Morgan led a Q & A session in the clubhouse, answering a range of questions from players and parents. Questions included work/playing balance, a typical day and injuries!

Organised by head coach Joel Booth, the evening was a huge success. It gave the girls a chance to meet and train with senior players who started at Leek and now play at the highest levels in club rugby, showing the pathway to success.

It also gave the minis a chance to see the whole girls junior section training and showed them that there is a pathway for them to continue playing rugby once they finish in the mixed teams.

A huge thanks to Morgan and Molly for their time and enthusiasm, to all the club volunteers and to the Leek and Longton Girls coaches who helped make the night run smoothly!
