Leek/Longton under 14s girls combined again with Loughborough for another famous cup win, this time in the Staffordshire Cup at Burton.
On a cold dry day with a hard pitch, LLL kicked off and took the game immediately to Burton. Some terrific defence coupled with good running lines saw Delilah run in our first try. Morgan added a second try with a fantastic break.
Burton came back strongly and with good work off a penalty close to the LLL line, scored a fine try. Half time score 7-10 with LLL just holding the advantage.
The second half kicked off with LLL now playing in to the wind which meant any high balls became a lottery! Fantastic tackling combined with strong carrying by the forwards including Abbie meant it was a very even game. Scores were traded again meaning LLL led 12-15.
Another brilliant break by Morgan from her own half completed her hat-trick and meant LLL held an eight point advantage going in to the last two minutes. Strong pressing by Burton once they entered our 22 saw them scoring a fine try but with the missed conversion there was time for no more. Final score Burton 17 – 20 LLL.
Leek / Longton now stand in a strong position to make the final of the Staffordshire Cup; a great achievement for this team which has improved week on week, especially when playing as the Triple Ls! Many thanks to the Loughborough girls for joining us again.
