With the severe weather it was inevitable that Saturday’s 1st XV game at Ramsbottom would be postponed, and we now visit undefeated league leaders Rossendale on 8 February.
All six games in Regional 1 North West were postponed so the league table hasn’t changed with Rossendale still on course to win the title having won all 13 games to date. Manchester moved into second after Wirral’s defeat at Leek and with Anselmians game against Kendal on 4 January postponed.
Wirral, on 49 points, have a ten-point cushion over fifth placed Stockport, but with Leek and Birkenhead Park winning on 4 January it has made the bottom half of the division very interesting as the season unfolds.
Leek have made up ground on both Stoke and Kendal and all three now sit on 22 points, with Penrith, Newport and Blackburn respectively eight, ten and 12 points ahead. With Leek still to play Stoke, Birkenhead and Blackburn at home and Kendal away, there will be a number of twists, turns and potential upsets before the relegation places are determined.
Saturday sees Blackburn visit Leek and on 25 January Stockport come to Altrad Park. The blue and whites then face away matches at Anselmians and Rossendale before three key fixtures against the sides around them, starting with Stoke on 15 February, Kendal on 1 March and Birkenhead Park on 8 March. The season concludes for the Moorlanders with a trip to Stockport on 22 March and Manchester at home on 5 April.
So it's still all to play for. Let's hope we stay injury free and that the 16th man remains in good voice on the touchline!
Our 2s are very much in the mix for promotion in Midlands 3 West (North), sitting fourth behind Barton, Uttoxeter and Newcastle 2s with a game in hand. Leek visit Uttoxeter on Saturday and host Barton on 1 February, so a big few weeks ahead if Andy Thomson's men are to realise their goal of promotion.
Please come and cheer on the boys on 1 February - they've been working hard and deserve our support.
Leek 3rds currently sit sixth in the seven-team Staffordshire Merit League 1 North, a little disappointing given their potential. This Saturday, the team is at home to second placed Ashbourne 2s and hope to put out a strong squad to help improve their league position.
What a season our Colts are having! They have only lost (narrowly) to the two Longton squads, winning their other eight fixtures, often comfortably. They visit Stoke on Saturday before hosting Longton Amber on 25 January.
There is some exciting talent brewing within this squad and with a strong management and coaching group around them, the lads are looking forward to the Staffs Colts Cup competition.
Good luck to all our senior teams for the rest of the season - please come down to Altrad Park and cheer the boys on from now through to April!
